Our group is faith-based as those of us who decided to start this group want to be that "shining light of Christ" to those we will serve in Joplin. However, don't let this stop you from serving with our group if you wish to help also. We are open to anyone who wants to help, Christian or not. What really matters is a group of dedicated volunteers who want to make a difference to the people of Joplin.
With that said, it is our intentions to start meeting as a group every week on Wednesday nights to talk about past trips and go through a book called "Lead Like Jesus." You don't need to attend this Wednesday night group to come on the trips we will make to Joplin, but you are encouraged to attend if you want to be part of a tight-knit community that we hope to build as a result of this group.
Our first Wednesday night meeting will be on July 27. At this meeting, we will be discussing details of our first trip to Joplin and what you need to know as far as what to wear, what we will be doing there, etc. We would love for anyone who is interested in serving in Joplin to attend. The place of the meeting is still to be determined but if you are interested, send an email to markvanbaale@gmail.com.
Our first trip to Joplin to help serve will be on Saturday, July 30. We plan to carpool to head down there and spend most of the day helping where needed. Details about when we will depart, etc. will be discussed at the July 27 meeting. If you are interested in going on this trip, send an email to markvanbaale@gmail.com.
It is our intention to go down monthly for a day to help in Joplin. If you would like to come with us on our monthly trips, you will need to attend a Wednesday night meeting the week of our trip. It is our thinking that the monthly trips will be on the last Saturday of each month or close to it.
If you would like to help in other ways in providing some of the items we will be bringing with us on each trip, here is what is needed:
- Cleaning supplies
- Cleaning cloths
- Paper towels
- Pet supplies
- Non-perishable food
- Household items
- Flashlights
- Batteries
- Work gloves
- Medical supplies
- New underwear
Donated items may be left at the following places:
Etter Chiropractic
11240 Strang Line Road
Lenexa, KS
or
33Church's Office
465 S. Parker St.
Olathe, KS
We hope you consider joining with us as we start this new group to make a difference in people's lives.
There are still to be greater things to be done in Joplin because He is God of This City:
